We are so proud of both Fernhill Revelation and Z for finishing in the top 10 in the CCI3* at Tattersalls International Horse Trials & Country Fair in Ratoath, Ireland. It was my first time ever competing in Ireland, and we will definitely be back!
Z, owned by Tom Tierney, Simon Roosevelt, Suzanne Lacy, Annie Jones and Caroline Moran, scored 45.0 in dressage for a personal best at three-star level to start in 11th place. He is a work in progress in the first phase and I think he did as well as he could for this point in his training. He’s a nervous horse, but he knew his job. It’s so valuable to be able to get a horse like him into a good atmosphere like Tattersalls.
He had the time of his life on cross country and went clear and inside the time. Z gets so wound up on cross country and I probably let him go a bit too quick in the beginning. He’s an unbelievable jumper and also has a big future ahead. He was also spectacular in the show jumping, going clear with 1 time penalty to finish 5th. The time penalty was largely due to me being first in the ring and not being quite sure of how the time was going to ride.
The Revelation Group’s Fernhill Revelation, or Warren, also started out on a personal best of 40.6 to sit in 5th place after dressage. The most exciting thing about Warren’s test is that there’s even more room for improvement. The rein back and the last halt weren’t our best, and I know he is getting that much closer to scoring in the 30s. He can also be pretty spooky, so I was proud of how he handled the atmosphere. He went to work out there and knew exactly what he had to do.
The cross country was definitely the biggest test of Warren’s career so far. I’ve had Warren for about a year now so the partnership is still developing. What excites me at this stage is that he’s very brave and keeps going even when he’s tired. He gutted it out at the end! Unfortunately we had two rails down in show jumping to finish 7th. I blame myself a bit because I was pushing him for the time after not making it with Z, and I think it cost us at least a rail. It would have been better off with a time fault or two, but you’re here and trying to win and that’s the risk you take.
Tattersalls is a wonderful event, and we are grateful to the organizers, volunteers and all who helped make the experience here such a great one. Thank you to my owners for their support on this trip, my team, my sponsors and supporters. We couldn’t do this without you!
