There’s nothing better than a win at your hometown event! Mr. Candyman had one of the fastest times on cross country to win the CIC3* at Plantation Field Horse Trials on 49.7. It was always my plan to push the pace with “Elmo,” and I couldn’t be more pleased with how he went today and over the whole weekend. We’re thrilled for his owners, Annie Jones, Bridget Colman, Caroline Moran and Tom Tierney.
John and Kristine Norton’s I’m Sew Ready led the CIC3* through the first two phases and picked up 10.8 time penalties today to finish in 3rd on 54.2. I hadn’t ridden “Jackson” for more than a year and got him back in the barn last week, so the plan was to give him a steady prep run for Fair Hill. He shows a ton of potential for the future, and I’m lucky to have the ride again while our good friend Kristen Bond is expecting her second child.
Z once again continues to impress and was all class, jumping clear with 6.8 time penalties to finish in 5th place on 59.2. After all the concern about the footing due to the lack of rain in the area in recent weeks, Jamie Hicks worked his magic and the going ended up being as good as it possibly could have been. Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend to support the event, and thank you to all the volunteers and officials for your hard work.
We also had a special end to the day when Charles Owen sponsored a recognition ceremony for HND Group’s Mighty Nice and me in honor of our individual bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Thank you to Roy Burek and Danielle Santos for your longtime support of our team. We are honored to partner with Charles Owen and look forward to continue working together to build a safer sport.
Thank you to Leslie Threlkeld and Cindy Lawler for the cross country photos, and remember you can watch the CIC3* on demand on the USEF Network. We are also very proud of Olivia and Amy Ruth Borun’s Santa’s Playboy, who completed their first CIC* in 14th place. We are so proud!
